Overdrive is the normal everyday usage. Best gas mileage,etc. Even when towing, as long as the load is light and no mountains, overdrive is ok. Heavy loads or mountains, no o/d. If you tow a trailer in o/d, and feel it kicking in and out of o/d, disable the o/d. Thats how you tell if the load is too much.

The time to use overdrive is all the time, unless your in stop and go traffic, climbing hills through the mountains, using 4WD, or towing a trailer. The rest of the time leave the vehicle's overdrive engaged.



Overdrive allows the vehicle's engine to operate at lower RPMs at cruising speeds thus increasing gas mileage.

The only time you shouldn't use overdrive is when you are towing something.
