My friend has a 98 or a 99 ford taurus. It has an am/fm cassette and on the buttons it says cd and cd 1-6 so at one time there was a factory cd changer. The factory manual doesnt say where tho its located. I have been to the junk yard and was looking in the same cars and all the center consoles have been removed so im guessing thats where but would like to know for sure. They have a console in their car and its loaded with items so I know their cd changer isnt there anymore IF thats where it was.

Agreed, the factory changer, if equipped, will either be in the trunk or sometimes it can be under the front console armrest, if the car is equipped with a floor shifter instead of the more common column shift. Either way, check to see if the wiring is there. To add the changer, you may have to add the wiring that leads to the radio tuner/amp module in the trunk. Another alternative is to use an ipod adapter that plugs in place to the changer input and allows an ipod to be both charged and controlled by the factory radio without any cassette or cigarette lighter adapters.

Driver side, in the trunk. If it does have a changer in it, you will be able to see it, there are two different looking carpet pieces that fit that side of the trunk, one has a cut out where the changer gos, and the other is plain without a cut out, and will look kind of like the passenger side. If it has no changer in it, the wiring will still be there behind the carpet, as will the ground point for the changer. If you push the CD button, and an error shows on the radio, then there is not a changer in it, or for some reason it is not plugged in
