it sounds like you have the alt wire hooked to the wrong side of the solenoid.

it should be on the battery side.

there should not be any wires on the starter side except for the starter cable.

P.S. i have a F.M.C. shop manual, if your harness is butchered i can send you a copy of the the charging system.

whats up Todd, If there is not any clicking sound of any style, and no capacity drain(sprint lights dimming),its no longer getting capacity to the solenoid. in all probability reasons so as of magnitude: a million)blown fuse-examine each and each of the fuses. 2)undesirable connection - many times the only on the starter fails first. the smaller twine to the solenoid.(examine all) 3)failed grasp swap,or impartial swap-those could be jumped. warning, automobile will initiate 'in kit' 4)ignition swap-in case you have a 'tilt wheel',attempt elevating, reducing, centering the wheel.if this would not help, the swap itself needs to get replaced or you are able to twine an outboard push button for commencing. 5)in case you have checked this far, the solenoid has failed. additionally,if that is been freezing the place your at,water might get into the starter or solenoid preserving them from working. g-good fortune Dan

what engine 2.3 L 3.0 OR 4.0 L

y/w must have 12 v from starter relay to fuse box under hood to alt

check wire harness there a splice in there may be corroded also check under fuse box

there also a fusible link on starter relay Colour g/y to link then change to black an orange

lg/red go to dash Light

here a basic diagram

http://www.tffn.net/altwirng.html

w/bk from alt to inner ratifier

make sure that the starter cable alone on 1 side of relay

and Bat cable and Other fusible link are on the other side or relay

you may have a short on starter relay to switch

on those there two solenoid one on fire wall pass and one on starter

remote starter can do that to if you have one

...

y/w from fuse under hood 15 amp

bk/o from link starter relay

use diagram i posted and disconnect small wire on starter solenoid see if it charge

if you need diagram for starter or alt let me know ??

i would go with alldata or a wire diagram. it might be to hard for anyone to figure that out based on your description. have you checked to see if the wires are right based on a diagram? they probably are a lot of supposed wire problems are not wire problems. but i would check for a clean connection on all the related wires. replace alt? sorry i couldnt be more help but this might help send you in the right direction.

Why dont you just scan the computer in the car to see whats turning on the light? Perhaps he already corrected the problem but didnt reset the computer. If you take it to any Ford dealer, they are going to run a diagnostic on it immediately.

solenoid or Regulator is wired wrong or at the starter. the S terminal wire at the starter relay maybe the problem. http://www.erareplicas.com/427man/wiring/alt.htm
