I am having issues with my truck my stick does not allow me to place it into 1 or 2 gear. While driving one day I down shifted from second gear but when I tried to place it into first gear it would not allow me to. I actually had to turn my truck off and in the off position it allowed me to place it into first. I took it into repair they sold me a new clutch, slave cylinder and placed transmission fluid. I picked it up and I am still having the same issues?

Does the clutch release real close to the floor? That would indicate there is still an air bubble in the hydraulics. If not, then they should have replaced the pilot bearing as part of the clutch replacement. If it is binding up, it would keep the trans from shifting smoothly. When you shift into reverse, does it grind? All these would indicate a problem with the clutch. The most common problem is incorrect bleeding of the clutch hydraulics. I have a pressure bleeder and it will not get rid of the air bubble unless I jack the front of the truck about 3 feet into the air. This tilts the master cylinder up in the front to allow the bubble to come out. My '94 Ranger had this problem and I ran the front end up onto a dirt pile almost making the rear bumper touch the ground and pumped the clutch pedal about 50 times releasing completely between strokes. Fixed the problem.

I just happen to believe it is a loose cover where the shifter bolts to the transmission or the "ball" on the end of the shifter is worn. The bolts are under the shifter boot and can be reached easily from on top. There is a " short shifter" kit out there for not too much.

You might want to read this:

It covers a typical problem with transmission shifters and the ranger in specific

Before you do anything else have the clutch master cylinder checked... my bet is its bi-passing and the other work you had done was never needed in the first place. Clutch master for your truck runs about $50 and replacement is fairly easy. Its mounted on the firewall, system has to be bled after installation, master should be bled before installation.

yeah, not good, your trans is binding inside. you might be lucky and have a bent shift fork, but i doubt it. worn parts let the shafts and gears bind together. they will not loosen till the load is removed from the trans. dont let someone tell you its a synchro cause its not.

take it back and tell them it's not fixed.. sounds like a bent shift fork assuming they did the clutch correctly.
