Question:
Check engine light?
?

I had my car put on a computer to see what was wrong with it. We put the car in the garage and had fixed everything that was printed out on the computer. The check engine light is still on. How do you get rid of that light if everything is fine with your car. Its a '98 Mercury Mystique.

Open the hood and check the engine, if it is still there... just ignore it.

It just may be your value head are in need of cleaning, this could be very costly anywhere from 4 to 7 hundred, the reason is because the heads have to be removed and clean with a bath and ect, ect. I would suggest it could be just the vaule line leading to the heads and any honest garage guy or gal could scrape and vacume out the carbon bits. This should cost anywhere form 125 to 200. Before doing this check the egr sensor. You or your buddy could change this yourself its maybe 3 screws and call driffent parts stores because the price can change place to place maybe 15 to 40 bucks depends who you call or even a junk yard for 2 bucks and 10 minutes. If this is the only problem and you don't need to pass a IM test for your car it should not hurt anything anyway. This most happens the engine light comes on at highway speeds and when you first start the car the light may not come on. As you did not put down the details so hope this anwsers you question

Don't always beleive the computer..most people think that the computer fixes it... The computer is basically like you going to a doctor... It is only telling the mechanic what symptoms it's having that you are unaware of... Get another mechanic to look at the codes..one that specializes in check engine lights (like a dealer or a "driveability" independant mechanic) and see if he can make heads or tails.

The Mystique however was a weird car for weird problems and lots of mechanics have problems working on it (It's an american and european design with a Japanese motor :-0)

Also the 4 key cycles won't work.. Only way to clear it, is with a scn tool or disconnecting the battery (unless you want to drive it around for a 100 miles or so hoping the light goes out)

Disconnect the POSITIVE cable from the battery and then reconnect it after a couple of minutes, the check engine light should go out. Most private garages that have a scanner can only determine WHY the check engine light came on.The scanner will not say what sensor caused the fault only narrow it down. The most common reasons for the check engine light to come on is a bad tank of fuel and the Oxygen sensor will detect a too rich or too lean mixture of fuel/air, It will not tell you that the sensor is bad or which one is bad(There is 4 Oxygen sensors on a Ford V type engine and 2 on a in-line type.If after disconnecting the battery for a few minutes the light goes off then it was an intermittent problem and definitely not a bad sensor.

Check hand book - it may be a 'service due' light although I would hope the mechanic would spot this. I also would hope he has checked the fluid levels - always check the easy stuff 1st.

If it is a service light there is usually an easy reset (in my case turning on the engine while pushing in the trip meter reset.

Give a main dealer a phone and ask them if this needs to be reset ... it is a 30 second task if it does.

Hope that helps

not something to do with fluids. Flashing skill you're misfiring and that's some thing which would be extreme. A test of the code at this factor will purely inform you what cylinder is misfiring and that i wager there is greater desirable than one. Did you place decrease grade gas? That and the warmth could reason this. it may additionally be a bad gas filter out, undesirable spark plugs or undesirable injectors. happens a lot simply by fact the climate starts off to get warm out. i might bypass have the motor vehicle regarded at simply by fact there are a number of available motives and it may get extreme priced changing areas that isn't restoration the subject. you would be able to get fortunate whether it truly is maximum suitable to have it dealt with and end utilising if it maintains as misfiring can injury the engine actual.

This often works for many car problems... Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery, wait 5 minutes, then reconnect the battery. The light should no longer be on since the engine computer has been reset.

some cars have a little switch in the engine that you can press to turn it off. sometimes they come on when you are due for an oil change

It's a sign that the Mechanic likes to make some more money. If he re-sets the computer $ 75.00

turn the key ( without staring it ) on and off four times. that will reset the codes. if it is still on then it is reading a fault code from something ... take it back and scan it again

Make sure you'd closing your gas cap tight enough, if everythign checks out fine, it's probably one of those little things.

u have to reset the computer. changing the parts alone will not reset the computer. it's a 2 part job
