I got a 66 ford mustang with a 347 stroker, I have been having problems out my valve cover gaskets for a long time now. I have replaced the gaskets numerous times, the valve covers are steel I believe, its the black ford racing ones you can get from summit. Anywho, I installed the gaskets correctly, but my engien vibrates a lot because of the cam in it I suppose. And the bolts are always becoming untight, I tryed to use my locking washers on it thinking it might help, but it doesnt. And then I noticed that oil leaks from my valve cover its coming up through a bolt hole, not like under the gasket but the bolt hole. I only have trouble on one side of the valve cover far as it leaking, the other valve cover doesn't leak just this one spot in the corner. What can I do to fix this and how can I fix the bolt coming undone and oil coming from the top of the bolt?

i could recommend using green Loctite for the valve conceal bolts. this could ward off them from taking flight via vibration. For the gasket, i could in basic terms propose using Silicon RTV sealant. The black shade could be a reliable option to apply. whether this could remember upon how oftentimes you eliminate the valve covers. As somebody had pronounced earlier, be careful to no longer over do it with the sealant. additionally, be certain you're torquing the valve covers down surprising as too plenty torque on one area or the different will reason it to warp, rendering it ineffective and inflicting it to leak like that. desire this allows, reliable success!

One, Locktite on the threads will control the vibration.

Two, a small rubber O-ring on the bolt will stop any leakage there.

Three, do not overtighten the bolts 5 foot pounds on valve covers will be plenty.

Four, make sure the cover is not hitting the rocker stud nuts.

Or you could just goo-up the whole mess with liquid gasket. personally, I like the neater looker.

i agree, use loctite on the bolts but use an RTV silicone with a high heat rating for the valve cover. run a nice bead around the center area that the valve cover sits

Green Loctite and Black Silicon RTV sealant should do the trick!
