I would guess whatever you personally prefer.
I myself have driven GM products for 30 yrs and am well satisfied. Never had any engine or transmission problems with any of them. The biggest improvement made is the rust inhibitors that they started using on the underbodies about 1985-86. They just last so much LONGER before the cancer appears.
I have always felt GM makes the superior product of the 2 companies, Ford and GM (Chevrolet Division).
Ford went down the drain after the original founder himself Henry Ford . That man had a vision and cared about his employees and wanted the public to have a great product at an affordable price. His farm machinery business was the same idea.
Seems like all this was lost after his death. Profit before people and product is the rule nowadays, even GM and Chrysler.
The Henry Ford story is a great one to read and learn about if you are a car enthusiast. His invention of the Ford Tractor line and his competitor Ferguson is a great story to read about as well. Harry Ferguson was a great mechanic, and knew a lot about engines and their design, and became a major force for Henry Ford to deal with in the farm tractor market. Both had a superior product . It's a great story of inventions, competition, and success for both men.
I just feel after driving for 30 yrs and observing autos on the road and family members who have owned Fords that GM products have still been the front runner of the "Big 3" manufacturers.
I have had all 3 products over the course of the years, no more Chrysler products, period. I don't feel they are the same since Lee Iaacoca isn't runnning the program any more. More of a profit 1st operation, and quality suffers.
So I would still recommend GM products. Just a long time overall satisfied customer.
The Chevrolet Automoblie Company was founded in 1911 by a man named Louis Chevrolet, and William Durant, the founder of General Motors.
I could say more, but again, the final choice of purchase lies with the individual buyers preference. The overall treatment of the auto by the buyer has a lot to do with its overall performance and longevity. Keep that scheduled maintenance on schedule and use genuine replacement parts. An ounce of prevention is truly worth a pound of cure. If most car drivers would check their autos out daily like a truck driver does by DOT regulations, your autos would break down less often and be even more reliable. Care for your car as you do your own personal needs. It has needs too.
By the way, I have my 1st ever VW, and LOVE IT. Seems to be a well built quality automobile, a diesel. Need I say more?
