Ford Vs Toyota Reliability

Having owned both I would say now days they are about equal. Now 10 to 20 years ago Toyota would have won but Ford has improved and Toyota has slipped in quality. There is a reason Consumer Reports no longer give Toyota's a good rating without testing them first.

to say who is better is an open question. Better at what.

Toyota builds a great Appliance, Its a great car for people who dont really care much about cars and just need a car to go from point a to point b.

Fords on the other hand builds cars that are more fun to drive and are better rewarding to the driver.

Id take a Fusion any day over a cookie cutter Camry.

Also look at the Toyota Tundra, Its a complete joke in the truck world. The only thing it has going for it is its engine. Ford builds a better, more durable truck than Toyota.

Look at the Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, and town Cars, they might be old Fashion, to today's standards but their reliability and room cant be beat and dirt cheap to fix and maintain. Why do you think cops and livery services swear by them.

Check the latest Consumer Reports "Predicted Reliability" scores. In the "family car" category, of the top 10 vehicles, 2 were Toyota's. 6 were Ford, Lincoln or Mercury products. And the car everyone thinks is the greatest, the Toyota Camry ranks below average!

In the "small car" category, in the top 10, there there was only 1 Toyota, the Yaris, both as a sedan and a hatchback. The Ford Focus was in the top 20 at #16.

For "large car" category the Avalon, was #1 and the Taurus was #4.

So do the math...7 Fords in the top 10, 5 Toyota's. Cant get closer than that, but 7 is more than 5 in my book.

And you foreign owners think Consumer Reports is the freakin' cats pajamas. So better cancel your subscriptions.

Can't speak out of Dodge or Chevy but between Ford and Toyota you could not even compare as Toyota is a million miles away from Ford.On the other hand you have to look at the facts that all the Fords around me have Yamaha or Volvo engines in stock, but its the Ford parts that fail.

I own both. I have a GT and a Prius. There is no comparison as far as gas mileage; I do know that Ford is not producing cars that would compete with a Prius, although they have released some hybrid models I think they are late in the game to beat out a Prius. The Prius although there is controversy about the cooper used in there batteries (google it) is the car everyone knows is a hybrid therefor has won over buyers. There was a study showing that at least every single person buying a hybrid looked into a Prius (From there they either bought it or moved on) I am a huge muscle car fan, but with a family and a budget my mustang gets very little road time.

Well lets see, ford uses Mazda engines, or Toyota,

The japanese have created a better engine with closer tolerances, but for body they rust out.

I believe, buy American, The job "you" save may be your own.

I really must conclude here, A vehicle, any, is only as good as the one who cares for it.

Want proof, visit the other car section here on answers, like Honda, Toyota, pontiac, ford and you will see the problems people are having with their neglected cars trucks

That's a very open ended question. Toyota has been known for being reliable but Ford is now on the same level of reliability. Toyota really sucks in terms of driving, they have absolutely no connection to the road. Even more expensive models like Lexus though executed very well feel like big boats. Fords drive way better and are less expensive to buy and maintain. If I had to pick, I would pick Ford. They have broad range of cars, SUVs and trucks, have most safety picks, and much improved quality.

I prefer Toyota cars, but my "evidence" is only my experience.

I've owned mid-range and economy cars, a Ford Tempo and a Ford Escort. I drove both well over 100,000 miles, so no complaint there, but they were a constant source of "things" going wrong, ranging from fuel pumps to brakes to door locks to automatic seat belts to blah, blah, blah. It seems like about every 3 months there was a $200 bill for something or other.

I've owned two Toyota Corollas and a Toyota Camry. Very comfortable cars, also drove them well over 100,000 miles. Had only one minor repair done on the Camry.

It's hard to imagine every buying another Ford, but I would definitely buy a Toyota.

(Trucks are another matter altogether. I've had Dodge, Chevy and Ford trucks for work, and found the Ford trucks can really take the punishment and come back for more. I much prefer the Ford F-series truck over any comparable vehicle.)

Ford. I've had my bronco since 86, Driven it every single day. Take care if your vehicle and it'll take care of you.

Used it for work, hauling, hunting, even wheeling every once in a while. Just take care of it.

I think Toyota ... but that is because I am biased, since my family has only had Toyota cars for the past 20 years.

Toyota all the way. That is why their resale value is so much higher. I've had both and the Fords always had more problems. They end up being more expensive because of the maintenance sometimes.

Toyota absolutely. Read any reviews, any of the JD Powers surveys, edmunds.com. Ford has and continues to be crap compared to Toyota. I owned two Fords in my life and both of them spent more time in the shop than they did on the road - and they were purchased new!

Ford. HOW CAN I SAY THAT? Simple, better price, better handling, better ergonomics, easier to maintain, and built in America. I'm sorry other people don't mind hundreds of American jobs going over seas but they will. 2020, the year 2020, everything will change. Hind site is 2020.

Toyota...Their reliability is amazing...and every time they put out a new product they don't try to reinvent the wheel.I still have a 98 Toyota truck that I used for hunting that has 230,000 miles on it...only a new clutch and gas tank

Toyota.

Better quality cars, trucks and suv. They retain their value. Toyota is still making a profit in this 'recession'. That speaks for itself.

All depends on how you take care of it. I had to haul home a 98 camry with 140k miles with a blown engine from lack of maintanence, and used my 200k mile dodge to haul it.
